Mike Hein: Yesterday's Hero-Tomorrows Villain!

February 2011, County Executive Mike Hein reported victory in his battle to curtail turbid water dumping into the Lower Esopus by NYC Dept of Environmental Protection. While the news is received as positive, (the water quality of the Lower Esopus's chocolate brown and full of sediment and impurities as a direct result of the dumping), the situation that now exists is more alarming. Ashokan Reservoir levels have been at 100% since the NYC DEP stopped releasing excess water, with the return of warm weather and spring thaw, the excess water run off into the Lower Esopus has and will continue to cause flooding along it's length. This weekend will tell the tale, heavy rain and snow combined with an above average spring thaw will certainly complicate an already serious situation. With no further water releases planned by the NYC DEP, water levels will surge above flood levels. Will residents think of Executive Hein as hero or villain?

  2. It isn't just Hein, What about this stuff? Is this OK? Wadnola is being accused of withholding information from the other Legislators and over riding the Committee chairs decision. That is a BIG NO-NO in the Legislature!

Ulster County Legislature Chairman Frederick Wadnola is drawing heat for refusing to cancel a recent committee meeting on the Golden Hill Health Care Center and for declining to distribute information intended for members of that committee.

  3. Hero or villian, Quigley is still scared to run against Hein !!!!

  4. It ain't as much fun without that loser W.A.S. team to kick around.
We need a new controversy. How about the treason by members of the Town Board? How about the rumor that Quigley will be challenged from within? What about the rumor that Fred Wadnola wants to take the Supervisors office back? What about the rumor that Brink wants to run as a Democrat? Joe, you are out of the loop if you aren't talking about these things.

  5. Looks like the love affair between the Wadnola's and the Bernardo's/Tantillo is over.

Bernardo/Tantillo are endorsing Hein before Quigley even has a chance to announce he is running. The only other explanation is that Wadnola will get all of the Legislature and Town Board candidate endorsements and Carnright will get the nod over Sennett.

Len Bernardo continues to have a great deal of influence on local elections and he has to be the most unimpressive person in Ulster County politics, go figure.
