Open Forum, Your Questions Answered..............

With the Local Election Cycle on the horizon, Ulster is Your Town Too is opening the comment section of this blog up for questions, suggestions and grievances town residents might have for our current Board members and Town Supervisor Jim Quigley.
While it is true that Supervisor Quigley has made himself available to residents at Town Hall during business hours as well as weekends and evenings at his office and at coffee clutches around town, there remain many residents who have not had the opportunity to discuss issues regarding Town policy.

Friends and Neighbors, for the next 28 days the floor is yours, we are confident your issues will be addressed, with one caveat, 'Please keep it clean'!

  1. I think this is a great idea, but you will soon find out why the trolls don't stop by to see the Supervisor on Saturdays. They don't want their lies and accusations dis-proven by truth.

Everyone knows who those individuals are, remnants of the past administration still clinging to the past. Most of them have given up and if we've realized anything over the past two years it is that 'you can't replace solid experience with slight of hand and empty rhetoric'.

  3. I would like the town board and supervisor to do something about all the signs that adorn telephone poles and public & private property all over the town. I pay for the advertisements I have on billboards in town and it really annoys me that anyone with a $3.00 plastic sign and a wire holder can advertise anywhere they want for free. I actually saw a town employee take some signs down in the median by Michael's Diner last summer - mow the lawn - and put these signs back! PLEASE make a local law that has some muscle behind it to stop this visual pollution!

  4. I have found that the roads in Ulster are really starting get bad, to the point where it will take millions to bring them back. Now, I like Frank Petramale, but I do have to say that since he took over, the conditions of our roads have deteriorated. What gives? Woerner spending contingency money or fund balance are not the reason routine maintenance has be lacking. This is a management, budget priority issue.

  5. I think it was brought up at a Town Board meeting I was at a while back that the paving program was taking a hit because the stupid oil prices were driving asphalt through the roof.

On another note several of the drainage projects that the highway department has undertaken in the last couple of years have made a huge difference in my neighborhood during localized flooding of roads due to heavy rains. Thank you.

  6. The roads in the town of Ulster...

    1. Ever drive in the City of Kingston?

    2. Did you observe the amount of snow/ice events that we had this winter?

    3. Do you have any idea how much money was spent on Salt/Overtime/Fuel etc. to properly plow our roads?

    4. Frank is doing the best job he can under a difficult budget with huge overages due to the winter. Just wait for the flooding to follow.

Here's a thought... Maybe we can get rid of some dead wood at the PD to put some money back into our infrastructure & Highway budget.

  7. If you think my comments were in reference to the past few weeks or even months, you are incorrect. You are citing issues that have come upon the department in the past few months. I am a life long resident of Ulster and my opinion is based on year over year road condition differences and Highway Supervisor priority comparisons.
Previous Highway Supervisors had drainage projects and still maintained the roads.

Comparing Ulster to Kingston is irrelevant since I am not talking about, pay my taxes to, or give a crap about Kingston.

Reducing the Police Force was a decision Mr. Quigley should have made if that is indeed the solution.

  8. The Sign laws are a joke and have been. Anytime a business wants a bigger sign, they pass a variance. In fact they made the sign law much less stringent under Woerner to appease his pal Beichert and they still pass every variance request.

As for the temporary signs, one of Quigleys campaign workers and big supporters who will go unnamed, were/are the absolute worst violators of the sign law.

If you want to get serious, fix the zoning first, enforce the laws second, and make new businesses stick to the zoning laws, otherwise you will get what have now, liter and a hodgepodge of visual pollution on 9-W and even on roads like Morton Blvd.

  9. Ohh here we go . Don't you dare pick on Frank on this blog, he's one of the good old boys. Lets get rid of the dead wood in the police department. Yea right, some people have absolutely no clue, or don't want to.

  10. 3:47 take note: Frank is actually a good ole boy, not one of the "good old boys" that have run roughshod over this county and town for decades. Used to be if you weren't a member of the right church you couldn't get a job in this town, but I digress... Dead wood has and does exist in our beloved and vehemently defended PD, Joe Sinagra (a true "good old boy's" boy) wouldn't have a job otherwise... and 2:05 if you feel so strongly about the road conditions, why didn't you run for highway superintendent when the opportunity presented itself when Mac was literally asleep/inebriated at the wheel? Perchance you haven't a clue as to the day to day efforts that are necessary to actually run a highway garage? Give the guy a break, he's been on the job during a terrible downturn in the economy (nationally and at the town level) and by my "life long resident" observations has done an outstanding job.

  11. I have read several articles over the last year or so that cited many instances where many Towns throughout the country are going back to tar and chip or dirt roads because the upkeep is getting to expensive. With oil prices going back up again this year you are going to see the town being able to buy less asphalt again this year.

While the roads get bad by the end of a bad winter, the Town of Ulster roads that need it do at least get fixed much quicker than any other town. I know one thing, if it means a bumpy road or higher taxes I take the bumpy ride anytime.

  12. 1:54 you obvious don't know what you're talking about when you write about the Ulster Police. Without Joe Sinagra, the new chief doesn't have a clue. He couln't lead the Boys Scouts. Oh, on second thought, maybe he could.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Without the new Police Chief (who is a very capable officer and Chief)the rank and file would have Sinagra's underwear hanging from the flag pole with him in them. I'm just saying.

  14. This is just one man's opinion and maybe not well informed but one of things I've noticed around the various town depts, and even at Town Hall, the cut throat back stabbing dirty office politics seems to have disappeared, even within the Police Dept and especially since Taggart was made Chief.

  15. I don't get it. You asked for questions and grievances and when someone gives one, instead of acknowledging that these are serious concerns of the taxpayers, the only replies are excuses or a defense of the person mentioned. That is not an answer, it is the same old same old.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Like I said 8:20, the new chief has No clue, and its obvious You have no clue.

  17. The Ulster Police Department is an outstanding department, dispite having Taggart as chief

  18. biased opinions get us nowhere, the only way foreward is to discuss the facts, ie: roads in disrepair, how can we get it fixed? Flooding by the Esopus, how can we mitigate it?
Discussing one's attitude toward individuals only fuels dysfunction, if you don't like something, well, that's what elections are for. but if your chosen candidate loses the only way things will get done is if we all support the elected official, 2 years is not too long to wait for a change!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Isn't every opinion biased?

You have apparently been put up to this by, or at least in consultation with Mr. Quigley. Otherwise how could you say "we are confident your issues will be addressed"? So let's get to addressing them.

  21. 12:17 it is very simple to figure out the competence of Deputy Chief Sinagra. Let's see he was Nicky's cheerleader, gave him a badge, red lights, pounded signs for him, tried to get the republicans to cross endorse him, and the list goes on. That is not the type of judgement that this taxpayer looks for in her police chief. Sorry, Sinagra is a nice guy but he dug his own grave on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Judgement - How about the time during a highspeed chase then Sgt. Taggart crashed a police car with a cadet in the car! Is that judgement?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Getting in one car accident with a cadet on a department approved ride along is hardly the same as using the Police department's resources to stroke the Supervisor's ego in an attempt to further your own career. Especially when things like badges are used for impersonation either on purpose or through the user's ignorance of the law.

  24. It has also been reported that the boy wonder tin'ed a Statey after he was out of office. That has not gone over well. They are still watching out for him on that one. Is it any wonder he changed his license plate?

  25. "tin'ed a Statey" wow, you're real cool 6:17
