Installation Ceremony Success!

Having been at the 2006 Installation Ceremonies for former Supervisor Woerner I can happily report that 2010 is without a doubt a positive start for the New Year & more importantly for the Town of Ulster.

Displaying humor and humility, newly sworn in Supervisor, James Quigley III conducted the Towns business in a truly dignified and bipartisan manner.

Absent for the first time in 4 long years was the derisive arrogance toward residents which was so obvious from day one of the prior administration.

As appointments were announced by newly elected Councilwoman, Chris Hendrick, it became obvious that party lines would disappear as only the most qualified person was put before the Town Board for consideration and vote. All appointments were unanimous further confirming a new direction for the Town of Ulster.

With resounding applause, Supervisor Quigley adjourned his first Town Meeting and with his first official tap of the gavel invited all in attendance to a reception at Christina's Restaurant on Ulster Ave.

We at Ulster is Your Town Too congratulate the voters for having the intelligence and insight in choosing new leadership and a brighter future for all our residents.

  1. That seat has been waiting for the right man for too long!
Jim, you look good sitting there!
    GOOD LUCK!

  2. Who did he appoint from the Democrat's?

    ReplyDelete
  3. All the appointments were unanimous because the town board is 100% Republican/Conservative. What do you expect? It will always be 100% unanimous. Is that really any better?

  4. Remember Barbra Wise. Even then there was never 100% agreement.

This should be interesting as there are three Board Members who want to be Supervisor.

Quigley will be challenged every step of the way.

  6. Still waiting to hear who the people from the other parties he appointed were. I would be very impressed if the party lines did indeed disappear.

Let's Start with Reno Budziack & Michael Berardi, that is already 2 more than Mr Woerner appointed in 4 years, if you really want to continue the sarcasm, we will be glad to accomodate

  8. I wasn't being sarcastic, I was looking for a list of appointments since the daily freeman did not report on it. The campaign is over, relax a little.

It's cool, if you go to the town website TownofUlster.org youwill find a link to download the agenda from the 1/1/2010 organizational meeting, included is a list of all appointments to date. And in all good humor, your comments were enjoyed thoroughly!

  11. More Dems: Current Ulster County Democratic Committee Vice Chair, former chair of the Town of Ulster Democratic Committee, Karen Markisenis was appointed chair of the Zoning Board of Appeals; Ron Markisenis was appointed to the public Access Cable Commission. There may be others.

  13. The agenda posted on the Town website was a draft. TDB was To be determined. In addition to the above names = Kevin Bryant, a D was retained as V&T attorney, Michael Berardi and Patrick Sheehan were named to the Economic Develpoment Committee. I am not sure of the Political affiliation of the Recreation Committee members but several members were retained from the prior Administration.

  15. If the 1st Town Hall Meeting under the Quigley Administration is any indication of the way the people's business will be conducted, the next 2 years will be a lesson in 'good government'!
I hope they are taking notice over at County, Hein could learn alot from Mr. Quigley!

  16. "Think local first" is the mantra of the Quigley administration from the looks of things. Ulster County is way behind on its sales tax estimates, NYS is practically bankrupt, and Obama has been literally printing money. Looks like Quigley is going back to basics and has put together a group of town residents, party affiliation aside, who can right the wrongs that Jingles and Zweben left in their wake. IT WILL TAKE TIME to UNDO the Woerner/Aaron/Zweben MESS, so lets all help where we can to assist our new administration. We can make the Town of Ulster the showplace of this county, and Quigley can then think about cleaning up Hein's band of usual suspects. Who know's maybe we can send Quigley to Albany - dustpan in hand - someday! We sure need his help!

    ReplyDelete
  17. For crying out loud, Quigley has been in office for a week and you are sending him to Albany? How about if we see him in action first. In all fairness, I think he should have to prove himself before he is elevated to a higher office.

He has talked a good game, now it is time to walk the talk. They are only words at this point, he hasn't done anything yet. Let's give him a chance to show his stuff before he is promoted.

  19. Looks like Mr. Quigley is not all he is cracked up to be.

Woerner posted proof that he got insurance reduction, not Quigley.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 11:08 Woerner signed it but the deal was delivered to him thru Quigley's negotiations in mid and late November, before you spout off praises for a disgraced and unethical former supervisor, CHECK YOUR FACTS!

  21. OMG! I just went to Mr. Woerner's blog to see what it's all about. I did comment and was greeted with a message that my post is awaiting approval!! Seriously!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I put a comment on yesterday and it has yet to be "approved". Nothing bad, just that a cell tower would look better than a huge senior complex on a little peice of land. The tower would pay more money to the town also.

Also, could we file a complaint with the agency investigating the use of the town's name on a blog. I am confused as to whether Nicky's blog is an official Town blog or not. It looks pretty official and all......lol!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Well I guess the 'Truth' is that Ulster-truth, (Woerner's Blog or Woerner's BLOB), is still trying to dictate what "is" is. in this case what "is" the truth? UIYTT has made multiple posts on the blog in question debating the issue of who actually negotiated the Insurance Contract and Mr. Blob, I mean Mr. Woerner has refused to publish them. I guess the old adage, 'you can't teach an old dog new tricks' was never more appropriate. This is the reason he lost by a landslide, you think he would learn by his mistakes

  24. Jim Quigley should pick Brian Cahill for something. He has too much experience to be sitting on the sidelines. Deputy Supervisor would be a good job for him. Jim Maloney has enough already, Don wise is just too volatile, and Vince Guido can not be trusted.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I posted 3 comments on Nickys blog. Still hasnt been approved. I also said nothing inappropriate.

  26. 2:16 Interesting, so many in support of Brian, a real smart guy, I wonder about the fit, does he have a working relationship with Quigley? You make a good case for not choosing the the others you mention but I'm not sure I buy the Cahill idea, I don't know if it is below Brian at this point in his career and after so many years in the Legislature could he find a primarily ceremonious position satisfying?
I posted fairly mild comments on the 'truth' blog as well, 4 days and 3 days ago, not yet published,
I wonder, the # of comments on his 3 separate posts are less than 5, and unless he's boosting the hit count, it seems that is just too few in proportion. Either no one cares about what NW has to say any longer or all the posts are contrary to his idea of what the truth is and as such he blocks them! This seems more likely.

  27. I don't know about Brian Cahill--after he told someone "to go f$%k yourself" in public and in mixed company. That's not somebody who belongs in public service or serving in any public capacity. Poor judgment and lack of public relations skills.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have worked with Cahill and he is superior to most of the people I have dealt with in the public sector. He is certainly head and shoulders above the 3 people being mentioned for Deputy when it comes to government work.
As for 11:25's comment, when Cahill told Maloney to have carnal relations with himself from what I have heard, it was for a very good reason. Politics is not the Girl Scouts, and sometimes it takes blunt language to express frustration in no uncertain terms. Especially when the other party is less than honest and has a proven, admitted questionable ethical background as was the case with Cahill's frank comment to Maloney.

I will take Cahill's overall experience over this one questionable indiscretion. In the grand scheme of things, it is his work ethic, intelligence, and honesty that is important.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I disagree. Anyone who loses his cool, especially in front of women, has serious issues. We all lose our cool from time to time, but exercise some self-control, or take the offender outside and deal with the issue. Getting hostile in front of the public does no one any good.

Just ask Jim Sottile about that.

In any event, I wonder how Brian Cahill would feel if someone told him to go "F$%k himself" in front of his wife and children.

How would you feel if your kids heard a political leader spout profanity?

"Yes, children, that is one of our legislators. A man you should look up to, as he is a leader and pillar of our community."

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have it from very good sources who were in the room, that he simply offered that to Maloney in place of the handshake Maloney offered him. He was not hostile, he did not lose his cool, and did not raise his voice. Cahill did not tell anyone to go F*#k themselves in front of their wife or children. It was in a room full of politicians and politically appointed hacks, most of whom did not even know he said it. Rich Cahill is the one who told them and then put it on his blog for everyone else to read. From what I was told, no one was upset by it, not even Maloney.

As far as a pillar of the community goes, I would certainly put him up against damn near anyone you could name, especially the crew being mentioned for Deputy Supervisor.

BTW, I doubt very much Quigley would even ever consider Cahill or if Cahill would accept if offered. But he is still a far cry better than the other 3 mentioned, curse word and all.

  31. Good case for and against BC for the job, but blaming RC for making what was public, public doesn't justify bad behavior.
Politics are dirty and we pretty much excuse their rants and raves from town halls to the halls of congress, that doesn't make it right. If we demanded a little more from them, including fewer scandals and less corruption, (not to say anyone in our town aside from AARON & ZWEBEN & CO are corrupt), and smaller expense accounts we might actually get 'GOOD GOVERNMENT'
In this case I'm willing to cut BC some slack but overall it is Jim Quigley's decision to make!

  32. Politics is a joke...broken promises, baseless accusations, "do what I say not what I do" types. Most of you out in cyberspace will criticize someone for whatever then turn around and do the same act without thought. Don't matter who that person is or which party he belongs to. But how many of you have the gumption to state your thoughts on paper and sent it to the newspapers? Very few of you knows what really goes on behind the scenes in both parties and the newspapers will never print it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I agree with you "beenthere". But the newspapers & Tv are a joke too. They are overpriced prostitutes, skewing their stories to the highest bidder. It starts with the Doxey/Hein love affair and moves right up the line to the Fox/rightwing and MSNBC/Obama love affairs.

So really even if you are a ignorant half wit and write down your ideas and send them to the newspapers they might print it if it falls in line with their propaganda campaign.

  34. The Freeman has a new boss, look for more interactive media upgrades. They are at least 2-3 years behind most other media outlets in their technology. Maybe then, it will improve the coverage.
P.S. Cahill would be a great choice for Deputy Supervisor. He has been very active around town for a long time, in fact a lot longer than Quigley!

    ReplyDelete
  35. So will Brian Cahill give up his day job and run for Town of Ulster Supervisor next time?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Where does Cahill work? If he could make the same money maybe he would.

"How would you feel if your kids heard a political leader spout profanity?"

    From the Kingston Times ----
Quigley said. Holding one of the basketball balls in his hand, he looked at the other and said, "I wonder if there's a message here. Maybe it's that it takes a big set of balls to run this town."

Not quite as bad, but I can guarantee my wife and some of my children read it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. 10:11 you've got to be some kind of real moron, you're gonna' compare the subtlety of Quigley's statement to that of BC when he told Maloney to go and you know what to himself!
You've got to be kidding me, In was there, the comment was made in front of 4 other 'MEN", no kids , no wives, no woman at all. If you want to blame the poor taste of the Kingston Times for printing the quote, that's one thing to cast aspersions on Quigley, Known to be a gentleman more than most of us, for having a sense of humor, you should have seen the way Woerner left the supervisor's office, just turn to page 6 of the NY Post? or for that matter watch any clothing commercial on broadcast tv, or a simpsons episode or family guy!
That is what journalism is today, in this case don't kill the message, kill the messanger.

  39. Don't worry about the children hearing profanity from politicians. They hear it everyday in school, from their friends and on television.

    ReplyDelete
  40. This is ridiculous, Brian did not curse in front of any kids. He cursed AT a person who deserved to be cursed at. Rich Cahill is an idiot who gossips like an old wash woman.
