Results are in, was there any doubt?
Unchallenged, undaunted and undeniable, Town of Ulster leadership received a vote of confidence judging by the results of the 2011 elections.
Supervisor: James E Quigley III
Town Clerk: Jason Cosenza
Town Justice: Marsha Weiss
Town Council: Joel Brink
Town Council: Eric Kitchen
Voter turnout was light but expected.
County Results:
District 4 Legislator: Jim Maloney
County District Attorney: Holley Carnright
County Executive: Mike Hein
Other county race results can be found at http://election.ulstercountyny.gov/index.html
Considering the continued economic malaise, challenges remain at both Town and County levels.
We wish Jim Quigley congratulations and continued success.
We congratulate all 2011 Town and County winners and look forward to their ensuing terms of office as a fulfillment of campaign promises made/campaign promises kept.

It would be interesting to know what percent of total town voters cast their vote for Town Supervisor & councilmen, based on the results for town clerk, Jason, almost as many voters cast a vote in support of Quigley and Weiss.
ReplyDeleteJAson got 2117 and Quigley got 2099, it seems that is a vote of confidence for Jim.
Judging from the numbers I think you might say Quigley got a large % of all votes cast! but official results wont be out for another week when all absentee ballots are counted.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope that this group of Republicans gets it done in Ulster. The 2 year grace/clean up period is over. They will have been in control for 4 years at the end of Jim's 2nd term and that is a sufficient amount of time for the public to give their policies to show results. We need jobs, jobs, and more jobs. The ball is in their court, it is now time to deliver. If not, just like Woerner and his crew, they will have to go after 4 years.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Jim et al {;-)
ReplyDeleteFunny that you think it's great to be unopposed. Is it great that Hein was unopposed? I guess you don't believe in democracy. You prefer to have no choice in your leaders or representatives. Personally, I thought I lived in the United States, not Cuba or China where the citizens have no choice and no voice.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the difference? It sickens me that there were no choices this year. Disgraceful, you call this a democracy?
ReplyDeleteChoice in politics is always a positive however discrediting the incumbents because of a failure of the opposition is rediculous. The Democrat Committee of T of U failed to put forth any candidate, it's not the responsibility of the current administration to select opposition candidates. I'm sure 2013 will be different, by then the negatives left by the Woerner Administration will surely be forgotten and Democrat candidates can run without baggage.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the sentiment of this POST, Facts are Facts, running unopposed and still getting the percentage of votes Quigley & Company received out of the entire Voting pool is a vote of confidence by the electorate.
8:56 - who discredited the incumbents? You're completely correct in your assessment that the Town of Ulster Democratic Committee is an utter failure, no thanks to Nicky B.
ReplyDeleteNever-the-less, the blogger hailed the results as if they were unexpected, rather than lamenting a lack of choice. Notice the blogger also wrote that voter turnout was light. But since you're bragging about percentage, what was the percentage vs. total registration? Can you compare that with Hein or the City of Kingston? I'd like to know the numbers.
I blame the town democratic chairman for not getting candidates. It is that persons job, not the republicans. Who is it now that Woerner is gone anyway?
ReplyDeleteI can think of at least a couple of decent democrats to put on the line to give the voters a choice. Berardi,Cahill, the Markesenses's. What about Buzdneak, the guy on the planning board?
Until the absentee ballots are counted, which should have been done by now, the total vote count will not be available. Although it is usually 1 week after election day that total results are made public. I think the critique was aimed at blaming the incumbants for the democrat failure to enter any candidate at all. as for hein, the republicans were just as at fault. This could be more proof that the Party system and its corruption is doomed.
ReplyDeleteNo one is blaming the incumbents for running unopposed. It is the responsibility of the town's Dem Committee to do that, and it's to blame (the Committee) for NOT doing it.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I'm amazed at the blogger's glee as if the incumbents pulled off an upset, and thinks nothing of running unopposed. Nowhere did the blogger (as I aforementioned) lament a lack of opposition. Our forefathers never intended a single-party system. I'm a Viet Nam War veteran and my father was a WWII veteran. Lots of blood has been spilled to fight for our democracy.
We should embrace and encourage democracy at every level of government, not take perverse pleasure in the fact that the blogger's Republican party sailed in to office.
7:34 I wont defend the blogger but I fail to sense any sort of glee in the post, it sounds more like a news piece than an opinion piece, but maybe that's just me.
ReplyDeleteafter all they were unchallenged, undaunted and the results were undeniable.
A vote of confidence can not be ordained by this blogger or anyone else for that matter, against a group that ran unopposed.
ReplyDeleteIf there is blame, it lies with all of the parties and not just the Democrats. Why do the Conservatives and Independence party back candidates from other parties? Where are their candidates?
I would like to see the law changed so a person can only run on one line and we would see a lot more candidates and a lot more diversity on every election. Instead, we get people like Eric Kitchen and Mike Hein running unopposed, and appearing on 3 of the 5 lines. Something is wrong with a process that allows that.
8:50 - so true....NYS is the only state in the union that allows candidates to run on more than one line.
ReplyDeleteDO NOT ALLOW AARON to have any part of the Golden Hill! He is a crook and he must be stopped! Save the lives that are in there for they do not deserve to be abused by this man the way the tenants are at the Birches! He is a maniac and all the tenants fear him and run for there lives when he arrives! I am one of them...I wish I never moved here
ReplyDelete6:52 - I heard one story about Aaron - he doesn't allow windows to be open before May 1st or something like that, because heat is included. If you're caught with an open window (and sometimes it gets really hot in April - who wouldn't want fresh air?), he fines you. He's a disgusting, greedy, animal - no, animal is too kind of a word for him...
ReplyDeleteQuig's is going to have to come up with lots and lots of scratch to fix town hall. Maybe the suddenly invisible John Bonicac will help him? Hinchey? Cahill? It may be time to send Maloney out for another reval? Wait, that won't work, the values are way, way down. Now what?
ReplyDeleteThis is why we elected Quigley, to find cost effective ways to take care of the town without oppressive tax increases. It is time to put up or shut up!
Aaron is a thief and Hein better watch out he doesn't gett too tight with him, it'll come back and bite him big time.
ReplyDeleteHey 6:52 If you dont like living where you are.. move ! My mother lives at Chambers and she loves it. She has lived there for over a year and has not have one problem. If you dont like aaron thats fine. But Chambers is a beautiful place for seniors.
ReplyDeleteThe taxes there are less than I pay for my house and property. 200 people live there, the fire trucks are there 5 times a week and they pay less than I do. They take more from the town than they contribute. I would bet less than 10% of the people living there came from Ulster, yet we pay for them. The PILOT is unfair to taxpayers.
